OSSLT: Thursday, March 26

Grade 10 Literacy Test: Thursday, March 26

This year, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will run on the morning of Thursday, March 26.  All grade 10 students will participate in the writing of the 2-booklet test.  Successful completion of the test is a diploma requirement, so we want to provide you with some early information.  Please plan any student appointments around this date.

Each booklet will run 75 minutes and will test a student’s ability in both reading and writing.  Students will be required to read brief passages and answer multiple choice questions and 6 line short answer responses.  In addition, each booklet will contain a major writing task: either the 3-paragraph opinion piece or news article.

There is a NEW layout this year.  There are question booklets and separate answer booklets.  Answers made in the question booklets will not be scored.  We will ensure that students clearly understand the instructions for writing the test prior to the test date.

We are doing many preparatory activities in school, across all subject disciplines, in the next few months.  It is also highly recommended that students do some extra preparation at home.  Visit www.eqao.com and click on the student resources link for practice activities.  Answer keys are also provided.  Students who want to further develop their grammar and vocabulary skills are encouraged to go to www.freerice.com and click on the English grammar and/or English vocabulary icons for a multiple choice self-test.
