News from the English Department

Welcome to Quad 2!

This quadmester’s teachers:

Ms. Corazza, a talented addition to the department this school year, is currently using all the skills in her play book to engage our Grade 10 Locally developed students.  They will be reading graphic texts and studying Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

Ms. Jeannotte, a seasoned Brennan teacher, is introducing her grade 10 Academic students to literacy review and will showcase the department’s commitment to Indigenous education when guiding her students through the novel The Marrow Thieves.  Her grade 12 College students will look at media literacy and study a new work, The Barcode Tattoo.

Mr. Koloff, our Academies’ English specialist, is looking forward to teaching his grade 12 University online students The Iron Giant and Fiddler on the Roof as the core works.  As always, critical thinking and literary theories will be paramount throughout the quad.

Ms. LaBute, a Brennan grad herself, is currently teaching our grade 11 University students and will introduce them to the characteristics of literary archetypes; by the end of the quad, they will have been introduced to the tragedy of Macbeth, the irony of Lord of the Flies, and the archetypal characters in A Streetcar Named Desire.

Ms. Varga, head of the department and Literacy Success Teacher, is focusing on promoting literacy skills development within the school in order to prepare all Brennan students for success on the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test).
